The Process
Copper is used for a medium because of it's warm, earthy energy and it's soft
malleability. Copper also has excellent durability and it's why the Ancient Egyptians used the ankh symbol, eternal life, for copper.
After an image is sketched and traced onto sheet copper it is hand cut and hand formed to three dimesional curves. A hand operated
press is used to create the creases or "veins" that flow outward to the curved edges. Using reinforcing copper pipe, copper plates
and stainless screws the piece is joined and bonded together with solder. Several layers and mixtures of satin enamel spray paints
are applied and buffed to expose the veins. In some designs areas have been etched to create copper highlights. A final
coat of a clear satin enamel protects and seals any bare copper.
